How can I be loyal when cosmetics discontinue so frequently ?

For example, I found a foundation that really works in all the ways I want it to....bought it twice and now it's no longer available.





And same with a hand cream from a respected brand! Bought it twice -- hubby even uses it -- but it is no longer on the shelves :(

As much as it sucks when something you love is discontinued, there's usually a reason. Whether it be low sales or product quality, there's a reason. However, one good thing to remember is that ';when one door closes, another one opens';. New products hit the market all the time, especially as technology advances. So saying by to old products just means you have room for better ones. it happens all the time, all good things must come to an end. But there are more wonderful products to come, that's why i stick with my favorite brands sometimes, just try new products. I am loyal to several.
Yes, I know exactly how you feel. They usually change for the better, replacing it with changed ';new %26amp; better product';. Repackaging it keeping up with the market. Just try to new replacement product, if it is a reputable company they should stand by their word, %26amp; give them a call. they can recomment something for you. Good luck.

Typically if a brand discontinues a color, they replace it with something very similar to it. Perhaps you could try the new color that replaced your favorite. I hate it when they discontinue a favorite of mine!! I've never heard of labs that will recreate a color. Good luck!!

I LOVE M.A.C. cosmetics and they've discontinued a lipstick that I miss. It was called ';Bubbles'; and was a shimmery, almost white lipstick. I used to pair it with their ';Plum'; lip liner.





Well my question is if anyone knows of a similar lipstick to Bubbles or if MAC is currently carrying anything like it or will ever carry it again?





I've also heard of companies who can replicate discontinued products if you can provide them with a sample. Has anyone heard of these or where I could find these companies?

I am a MAC addict as well. There is a new lip collection out called ';The Cream Collection'; that consists of lipsticks and glosses. They are so creamy, rich, and highly glossy. They all kinda have the white base to it. Although, I am not familiar with the ';Plum'; lip liner you like, I do know there is a lipstick called ';lavendar whip'; and a lip gloss called ';ever so rich.'; They are both purplish, plum that you might like.





Have you looked at the Beauty Outlet? They always carry discontinued MAC stuff.
M.A.C. carries a lipstick called '; Tanarama';. The Finish is the same as bubbles was...They both have a Frost finish. Tanarama is a pale beige with gold shimmer. Its probably the closest thing that M.A.C. carries. Go to the M.A.C site and poke around the lipstick page...it's very helpful.
Well, I shop at mac and found the same problem. You could try Lancome or Clinique.





Also there is Bare Minerals which is an all natural beauty line.





Maybe you should try another lipstick at MAC and see if you like it.

You can try the places mentioned by the other two people however be very careful it has already been over a year so you might get something old that isn't any good depending on how long they had it in stock. I would try to find one you like that is similar. You are correct when items are first discontinued or when my customers have something they love I get a few extra so I am sure there are consultants who have done the same. actually , you can . Its a company called 3 custom color , and they will match any shade of something , say a nail polish , and create a lip gloss, eyeshadow , blush etc for you .
From the manufacturer? I doubt that.





But you can go to a 3rd party vendor/makeup artist and they can recreate the colors for you.

This is going to sound weird, but big lots carries most discontinued products. You probally won't find discontinued products because the company is no longer making it. usually they are replacing it with something new or better. You may want to try and call the company to see what they replace it with. But you won't find it at any store due to the fact that they dont make it. Hope this Helped. Ebay might be the place. It may take awhile to find but you can set up a favorite search to notify you by email when someone posts the product. That way you don't have to be on every day. Good luck!

I've purchased MAC and Iman cosmetics in the past. It's true that they both have a large range of shades. And i must admit that they feel great on the skin. But if you're in the small percentage of women who have hard to match skin tones, like me, then you can't use either products.





When I bought MAC and Iman. The sales people supposedly gave me a correct color match. And when I looked in the mirror it seemed to blend in. But the moment I walked outside into natural light, it looked like I had a red mask on. So I took the makeup back and tried a color in a neutral undertone. Again when I looked at my face in natural light, it completly washed me out.





So it was then that I knew I had strong yellow undertones. So again I tried getting a shade that had a warm (yellow undertone). But unfortunately, it was still to pink. Eventually I had to end up purchasing foundation formulated for Asian women. Which did match my skin. But despite that I still use alot of MAC's eyeshadows and blushes.Do you use cosmetics like Mac, Fashion Fair, and Iman?

I like to use Mac when I got out at nights just cause the colors are more dramatic and sexy looking. However, during the day I use only Mary Kay just cause its such a natural elegant look.
i love mac. they make really good foundation. and their eyeshadows are really bright.
Mac is really good quality stuff. Lots of tones...good texture....wont harm the skin. Mac is a make up company exclucively. Other brands make all sorts of beauty products. Their base make up and loose powder is very good.
I use mac lipsticks and eyeshadow because they have such strong colors.
I buy them all but I end up using them once or twice, a complete waste of money. The only thing I use consistently is my clean %26amp; clear shine control invisible powder. everthing else make me seem to made-up.
Yeah, i use the Mac liquid foundation because it complements my skin more. but other than that, the rest of my make up are from Estee Lauder. =) A greater variety of selection and good skin care products.

I love Iman, but she has done a pretty fine job of ripping off ethnic women by thinking they are getting quality makeup products when they are not. Her makeup products are filled with chemicals, bismuth (a form of arsenic) and, added fillers (look on the back of your makeup bottle and read the ingredients). Your skin will worsen the more you use products like these, but if you like it...than do what you want.I love Iman cosmetics!!!?

I have and I LOVE it. I use the cream to powder foundation and her pressed powder. So far 2 of my friends have also switched over from MAC to Iman. It just looks better to me and it's half the price.

Girl, I love my Iman Makeup!!!!...:-0 I use her Earth 2 Foundation, her Iman Lipgloss, her Luxury Pressed Powder in Clay Medium-Dark, and her eyeshadow. Her makeup really compliments the skin tone and it's available at Walgreens, Rite-Aid, or Wal-Mart (depending on where you live). I get alot of compliments on my makeup and it's from her line. I blend her makeup with others because I love to wear makeup altogether, but in my opinion (and this is strictly my opinion) her makeup is the best for women of color. I used to sell it. It is a good line, lots of colors etc. I never had complaints from customers about break outs or anything like that. Give it a try. Most retailers will let you return the product if you don't like it. I know Sephora does but not sure if they carry it.

geez, you people aren't going to find discount cosmetic dentistry in america. even dental schools know cosmetics aren't necessary and charge a lot for cosmetic cases to make up for their low fees on the necessities (cleanings, fillings, extractions, etc). if you do, you need to wonder why the dentist has to charge so little. cosmetic dentistry is very difficult to do well as there are lots of ways it can fail or, more likely, be cosmetically displeasing. if you want cosmetic work, save your money and get it when you can afford it. if you think you need it to make more money, get on a care credit payment plan and don't skimp. you'll look like a fool with a bad veneer job, trust me.

It is hard to get discounted rates on this makeup. For some reason, they are not fond of offering discounts. However, if you were to go to their web page and sign up for their email mailer, sometimes they do send out coupons that are good for a short time. Also, in comparison to this makeup, check out the ';natural rice'; line at Sally Beauty supply. Before I switched to this make up I used Mac because I found that my face broke out less from it, however with the natural rice I have NO break outs and the prices are amazing. The nice part? If you try it and hate it, Sally will give you 100% refund with a reciept with in their return policy even if you have opened it. When in a pinch, you may find that this works for you. I do not suggest that you order through E-bay even if the products are sealed because thoes are usually close to out of date. The oils in the makeup go bad over time and can cause reactions to the oils in your skin. Good luck, I hope this has helped!!!

If you can prove that you're a professional performer, they have a 'MAC Professional' discount. All my dancer/actor friends get their stage makeup from MAC.

Yes i agree with Tracy. I have just started selling Mary Kay and if you dont prepare your skin with a good cleanser and moisturizer, no makeup will go on good. The PPID site listed tells you all about getting a MAC discount card. Please know that with your MAC discount card you are forbidden from re-selling. They monitor the program very closely and if you are caught re-selling the product you are banned from the program.





For Benefit to take you seriously you must be an established business that already carries cosmetics or be a licensed esthetician or a makeup artist with a decent resume and portfolio. They do not allow just anyone to carry their product. You can't , for instance, be a regular consumer who wishes to sell their product back on ebay. They won't sell to you.





If you are a professional artist they will occasionally sell to you at a discount but the same rules apply. You cannot apply for professional discounts and resell the product. You'll be blacklisted for pro discounts if you do this. You can contact the benefit sales department and tell them who you are (ie qualifications) and in what venue you'd like to resell their products to ask them for the qualifications for opening a resell account. Normally a business license and Tax Id number is required.

They might claim they do not contain any ';carcinogenic'; sulphates, parabens, etc BUT how sure are we that the natural herbs/extracts themselves are not just as bad???





For example, i am looking at a hand cream which contains Yarrow. Yarrow, after prolonged use can increase the damage the sun does to your skin. It also contains a toxic element (although in tiny quanitities).

I think both organic and chemical cosmetics are fine to use. its a case of personal preference. a chemical cosmetic can be good because ultimatly the ingredients are natural but hav been altered by man to make them better (maybe worse in some cases). whereas natural organic products can be naturally bad or good. 1. I'm currently using the Physicians Formula Organic Wear line, because it's considerably cheaper than some of the other lines out there, but works well.

Cosmetics are not filled with extremely toxic chemicals- they are not in the market of killing people; however, recently more cosmetic companies have been found to be putting more then .01g of lead in lipsticks (Loreal and Dior are two of these companies) but they are now changing the way they make them so it contains less than .01g of lead. You really have nothing to worry about because no makeup will contain extremely dangerous chemicals- not even the lead based ones will hurt you unless used for years and years (if even then). The FDA does not approve the usage of toxic chemicals in cosmetics or in anything for that matter so no need to worry.


Organic is a new age thing- everyone thinks organic is better. In some cases, such as food- it can be better; however, in cosmetics I don't think it makes a difference. Well, a lot of people think that if they have sensitive skin...they should use something organic.....well, that's won't neccessarily solve it. Botanic extracts and fruit extracts actually cause more allergies than products that are made from science. Hence you would hardly find organic products that say hypoallergenic to it.





I would suggest you use a product that is labeled allergy tested AND hypoallergenic AND fragrance free.





As to address your sensitivity to breaking out and irritation...you shoud try cetaphil and eucerin and then graduate to diffrent products if your skin can tolerate it.
I don't know but wanted to suggest that you go to Wild Oats and sample all their cosmetics, they carry tons of organic ones.
Go to www.sephora.com and search the word ';organic';. They offer a wide variety of organic and all natural skincare products (but very few organic cosmetics). Skincare is definately a good start though, Good luck!!

omgosh, you sound like i used to a few months ago. try Murad acne complex. it's not make-up, it's acne treatment. it's SO great. its kinda costly, but it's SO worth it. it doesn't irritate you skin at all, not like pro active. proactive has benzoyl peroxide which can mess up your skin even more. but Murad Acne complex is WONDERFUL. i started seeing results in only one week, but the most time it would take is a month...that's not that bad. go to murad.com and check out their ACNE COMPLEX i think they might have a special offer on it right now. go ahead give it a try, it's AMAZING! i don't even NEED makeup to cover up my skin anymore.

BURT'S BEES!!!! for sure. they are completely organic and have everything from eyeshadow and liner to foundation and shampoo and i even heard hair-dye! they have an awesome website and they do tours to teach their new customers how to use their products. they are really reliable to me. try going to a drugstore or bath and body works or cracker barrel. the mast general store has the hugest selection ever. And the Best is it isn't that pricey. hope this helps

Sealing them properly along with storing them in a cool area like a refrigerator would be an effective way to extend their shelf life. Bathroom areas get too hot and steamy from the shower and aren't ideal areas to store things like that, or medicine.
